The “royal flush”, sometimes called “imperial flush”, is simply an ace flush. It is the highest possible hand in Video Poker games. It can therefore only be beaten by another straight flush of higher rank. Like a normal flush, a straight flush can be “white”, if this convention is accepted at the table. The Royal Flush is the pinnacle of success and luck for a video poker player - the best and highest paying hand in the game. Many readers have sent us questions about how often they should expect royals, and how many hands it should take to hit a royal flush. Once in every 92 hands, on average, you’ll be dealt a three-card royal flush (about 7-8 per hour). This is what makes video poker exciting; namely, that you’ll have several opportunities to draw for a royal flush even if the odds are somewhat long (see next question).
You need to ask yourself what are the chances of being dealt a royal flush at Video Poker. That way you will have the real idea of where and when to place your bet.Four Cards to the Royal Flush
You are the lucky one if you are to be dealt four cards just off the bat. This actually does not happen all the time. Therefore, every time the cards are dealt four cards to the chance is that you will get one card you need to complete a royal flush.Three Cards to Video Poker Royal Flush
Royal Flush A Royal Flush is a poker hand made out of 10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace, all of the same suit. It is the best out of all the poker hands that can be created in a standard game of poker. Royal Flush with 5 coins played $5000 Royal Flush with 1-4 coins played $800 x bet Straight Flush $250 x bet Four of a Kind $25 x bet Full House $9 x bet Flush $6 x bet Straight $4 x bet Three of a Kind $3 x bet Two pair $2 x bet Pair of Jacks or Better $1 x bet.
You will be dealt three cards to a royal flush once in every 92 hands and that’s the average. Or at some point, it can be 13 times every two hours. This is not the same as the 1 in 47 chance above. At this point, the chance of hitting a royal flush when holding three cards is in 1,081.Two Cards
You can actually expect to be dealt a two-card royal flush once in every 13 hands on average. Though the frequency of you being dealt a two-card is a good thing, the odds of drawing a royal flush, on the other hand, are very long.
Above all, you can still play video poker at Reels of Joy online casino and win real money in real-time now. There are numerous poker variations that you can explore at Reels of Joy and enjoy this amazing feauture.

I ran it through the calculator and it suggested the optimal play is keep 3 to royal with an EV of 6.434 per 5 units bet, and the runner up is 4 to flush with a EV of 6.383That is a difference of only 0.012 EV per unitSo that makes me wonder, if going for royal here is indeed the correct play. Because if god forbid, you hit that royal (I’ve never hit a royal in my life on 1 line), you’ll get taxed and you’re ’supposed’ to tip, not to mention the exact thing you’re tipping for - hand pay - is going to inconvenience you and waste maybe a good half an hour of your time.In addition, going for 4-flush also significantly reduces variance. Usually reducing variance is desirable. So with all that in consideration, is it still the best play to go for 3 to royal? What do you guys think?Personally after contemplating that I’ve decided that small EV gain is not worth the negative sides of hitting a royal. So from now on I’m keeping 4-flush in a situation like this.IbeatyouracesI always follow optimal strategy for 9/6 JoB. So in this case, I go for the royal. Now if the hand is Ah, Jh, 10h, 4h, Kc, I’m going for the flush instead.RSIt’s up to you, really. I don’t think holding the 4-flush is an awful play, when you take in the other considerations (variance, hand-pay, slow down play, etc.).ThatDonGuyIt depends on the game.Jacks or Better, 8/5 or worse: keep the 3/Royal.Jacks or Better, 9/6 or better: if the 3/Royal includes both an Ace and a 10, keep the 4/Flush; otherwise, keep the 3/Royal.9/7/5 Bonus Poker: keep the 3/Royal only if it’s K Q J or Q J 10.Ibeatyouraces
...Jacks or Better, 9/6 or better: if the 3/Royal includes both an Ace and a 10, keep the 4/Flush; otherwise, keep the 3/Royal...Almost. This depends on the other two cards. In order for the four card flush draw to be correct, one of the others must be the same suit and the other must be a 10 or missing straight card. Example Ah, Jh, 10h, 4h, Ks = flush draw. Ah, Jh, 10h, 4h, 6s = royal draw.DUHHIIIIIIIII HEARD THAT!NeutrinoYou guys don’t mind getting taxed on the royal? I’m not sure how to do the calculation here but my instincts tell me the taxes alone may offset the EV difference from 3-royal.Ibeatyouraces

Just write it off and you’ll owe no taxes. Also, quarter royals aren’t taxed...yet.DUHHIIIIIIIII HEARD THAT!DJTeddyBearOdds Of Hitting Royal FlushAccording to the Wizard’s analyzer, http://wizardofodds.com/games/video-poker/hand-analyzer/Holding the 3 to a Royal is worth 1.286 while holding the 4 to a Flush is worth 1.276So, yeah, it’s kind of a coin toss...I invented a few casino games.
